Self-portrait make beautiful dresses with lace, flower applications and decorations. The brand has been hyped for the past couple years and I’m the last person to judge, because I think their dresses are gorgeous and the prices reasonable. Some styles are a bit too sweet even for me but I’ve found some older styles I really like. The black midi dress I’m wearing in my blog header has become a true savior in my wardrobe. I find myself choosing it over and over again although I was quite unsure when I first got it. With a little bit of nip and tuck and DIY tricks I tuned it into a true classic that fits me perfectly.

This white dress with lace panels has become another go-to dress both when getting dressed up but also paired with a knit an boots (here). I love having a wardrobe that contains pieces that can be worn both day and night. Basically that’s all I need. It’s all about how their styled. Most importantly, everything gets worn in one way or another. Personally I think also party wear deserve to see some daylight, therefore I have a few things I try to keep in mind when I buy something special.

–I am a firm believer in cost/ use. Personally I’d rather pay a bit more and wear it  for a long  time forward over buying a new top every weekend. 

–Alter your clothes for a perfect fit or make small changes on a vintage piece to bring it up to date.

–Don’t save your “nice” pieces for special occasions. Wear your favorite purse to the playground (carefully) and match your sequin skirt with a grey knit and sneakers. However, wearing suede shoes on a rainy day is not the best idea ;).

–Research! If I find something online I always shop smart. I compare prices and shipping/return costs.

–Shop for the future! Yes, I believe in shopping for the upcoming summer wedding during the winter or vice versa. Some sites have sections like best of the rest or outlets where older styles can be found for better prices. I love shopping there because it minimizes the risk of wearing what everyone else will be wearing from the newest collections.
