It’s all about that base

Let’s return to the world of beauty on this lovely Sunday morning. I am, as you know, not the most talented makeup artist or makeup blogger even, but I love makeup and always have. Sometimes I just don’t know what to do with all the jars and tubes I have. However, the more I work and the more I step into the spotlight on scene or in front of the camera, I’ve come to the conclusion that great makeup products can save you lots of time and energy. We don’t need to wear makeup of course, but I feel a lot more secure, sharp, vibrant and less vulnerable when I feel put together and like I’ve made a bit of an effort. Putting on my makeup in the morning, helps me get into work mode and reminds me of the women I am outside the home.

This year, I’ve actually stepped up the game quite a lot when it comes to both skincare and makeup, because I’ve started to see changes in how I look. It’s only natural to age, so I’m just trying to find suitable products for my needs- today. I watched my first makeup tutorial ever on YouTube a few months back and a whole new world opened up for me. If you like me feel like applying makeup is difficult, do what I did and search for tutorials for your specific needs online. I’ve learned so much, therefore I want to share some of my newly found tricks with you.

In this post, I will guide you through the steps I follow when I want to create a long-lasting base. I do this, when I know I’ll be in front of the camera for hours, travel or have long work days. This base is natural looking but gives great coverage that lasts all day long.

Firstly, I just learned that there is a primer that helps me with my pinkish and unevenly rosy skin tone that blushes up very easily. It gets worse during winter but finding this L’Oréal Paris Infaillible anti redness primer has been a huge relief for my entire makeup routine. The green tone neutralizes redness in the skin, and the primer itself is very light and evens out the skin before the foundation.

L’Oréal Paris Infaillible 24h fresh wear foundation, is the one makeup product I take with me and hand over to the makeup artist whenever I’m at a modelling job or in the hands of a pro. I think it suits me perfectly. Do you want to know why? Because it’s yellow enough. Like I said, my skin tone is pinkish and I’m also very pale and on to top of that combination, I also have extremely thin skin exposing veins and uneven pigmentation. By changing my skin tone towards a more warm, yellow tone, it will help me look more perky and fresh. I apply foundation using my fingers and I use as little as possible where I have lines and creases. I apply a thicker layer by tapping the product onto the middle of my forehead, around my nose, onto my eyelids and on my chin. At the end, I make sure to rub a bit along the hair line and smudge some down the neck.

The Infaillible foundation is long lasting, gives you great coverage, yet it’s light and lets the skin breath. It doesn’t dry out the skin, which is crucial when I choose a foundation. It comes in 8 different shades and I usually use shade 200 sable Doré Golden Sand. It is perfect for me who has dry and matte skin with redness and patchiness. It doesn’t smudge, and it leaves the skin very natural.

Right now, the Infaillible foundation is on a discount at Sokos (12.10-18.11) and K-Citymarkets (-28.10). Ask for help if you’re unsure. There are professionals who can help you choose the right shade for your specific needs.

After the foundation, I love playing with light. I turn to my favorite Glow Mon Amour highlighting drops (01 ivory) to bring out my cheek bones, brow bones and lips. I love these drops, because they set nicely into the skin due to the very light and moist formula. Highlighting lets us play with our bone structure by bringing light to the highest parts of our face. I use these drops on my collar bones, shoulders and legs whenever they get exposed. Perfect little trick in time for the upcoming Christmas parties.

I correct my tired eyes with loads of L’Oréal Paris True Match concealer. I tap it on in layers, both under the eyes and on top of the eyelids. I want as much coverage as possible without making it cakey. I’d rather layer a light product than use a product that makes my skin underneath my eyes dry and dull.  Choose a color that matches your cheeks. It shouldn’t be too light to avoid the white circles around your eyes. Concealer is a life savior for mothers. Thank Goodness someone created this! I carry it with me everywhere I go. Always.

To bring life and color to my cheeks I use the peachy Life’s a Peach blush on the apples of my cheeks (the soft part). I love rosy cheeks, especially during winter when the face tends to get a bit grey.

Lastly, I apply just a tiny bit of powder. I powder very lightly because my skin already is so matte. I mostly use powder to make everything fixed into place. I tap powder on my eyelids and on my nose wings, but that is enough. I’ve always preferred lots of glow, but whether you like to highlight or mattify, depends on taste of course, but also on your skin and how it tends to act along the day. So, if you have oily skin that tends to shine, perhaps it’s better to use less of the highlighting products and powder the parts you wish to be matte. It’s all about learning how your skin reacts.

This is how I do my base. If you like to see me apply it step by step, follow me on Instagram stories tomorrow morning. I’ll show you exactly how and where I apply these products and how it lasts throughout the day. You can also ask me any questions about my makeup routine and I will answer them in the videos tomorrow.
